Soča
Description
The Soča River, also known as the Isonzo, is a 138 km-long alpine river flowing
from the heart of the Julian Alps in Slovenia to the Adriatic Sea in Italy. Famous
for its stunning emerald-green color, the Soča is celebrated as one of the most
beautiful rivers in Europe. Its source lies in the Trenta Valley, and it passes
through iconic towns like Bovec, Kobarid, and Tolmin. The river is a paradise for
outdoor lovers, offering activities like kayaking, rafting, and fishing for the native
marble trout. Rich in history, the Soča Valley was the site of twelve fierce WWI
battles, known as the Battles of the Isonzo. Visitors can explore natural wonders
like the Great and Little Soča Gorges, Kozjak Waterfall, and Tolmin Gorges. With
its breathtaking beauty, cultural heritage, and crystal-clear waters, the Soča is the
true jewel of the valley.
