Slap Virje
Description
Virje Waterfall lies on the Gljun stream near the village of Plužna in the Bovec
region. Fed by the Kanin mountain range, the stream has a cold karstic spring,
with water temperatures rarely exceeding 5 °C—even in summer. Just 300 meters
downstream from the spring, the waterfall cascades over a moss-covered rock
wall into a beautiful emerald pool. At around 20 meters high, the water splits into
two main streams, creating a delicate, scenic display, especially after snowmelt in
late spring. The pool below is divided by a rock ledge and surrounded by a
peaceful grassy clearing. Though modest in height, Virje Waterfall offers a
magical experience and is easily reached by a short, steep path from
Plužna—making it a favorite among photographers and nature lovers.
