Polovnik Ridge
Description
Polovnik is a majestic yet lesser-known ridge in the western Krn group, surrounded by the scenic bend of the Soča River. Also called Morizna, it extends east to west between the Soča and Slatnik valleys, with forested slopes on the north and rocky grasslands on the south. The ridge offers breathtaking views over the Bovec Basin and the Julian Alps. Its highest peak, Krasji vrh (1,773 m), is accessible via a marked trail, while Veliki vrh (1,764 m) requires following a historic, though partially eroded, WWI mule track. The area remains quiet and wild, ideal for hikers seeking solitude and immersion in unspoiled alpine nature. Polovnik is best suited for experienced mountaineers and history lovers, as it combines remote natural beauty with remnants of wartime paths and forgotten past.
