Gljun Creek
Description
Just a few minutes from Bovec lies the Gljun, a hidden karst spring fed by underground water from the mighty Kanin massif. Emerging from moss-covered rock, this cold alpine creek creates a magical atmosphere—especially after rainfall when its flow intensifies dramatically. The stream leads to Virje Waterfall, a picturesque 12-meter cascade tumbling into an emerald pool surrounded by lush greenery. Even in summer, the water remains a brisk 5.5°C—ideal for a quick, refreshing dip. The route to the waterfall begins in Plužna, a small village just 2 km away, and is accessible for families, casual walkers, and cyclists. Along the way, visitors enjoy a scenic walk past old water channels and alpine meadows. Gljun and Virje are some of the most photogenic and peaceful spots in the Soča Valley, ideal for nature lovers, photographers, and those seeking a serene retreat in nature.
